Record producer, film composer, musician, arranger, engineer located in the historic Woodstock, New York area. An avid collector of vintage analog synthesizers and recording gear. He owns a private recording studio called Sun Mountain Studios located on top of a mountain overlooking the Ashokan Reservoir.

Some artists he has worked with: Lumineers, Shania Twain, Jade Bird, Shawn Mendes, Vance Joy, Meghan Trainor, Lenny Kravitz, Jeremiah Fraites, Josin, Matt Maeson and Lana Del Rey.

He blends retro and modern, orchestrated and raw. The contrast that brings out the emotion of a scene or in a song.

David releases his own music on UK-based Here and Now Recordings.

David grew up in the music business. Aaron Baron, his father, was a pioneer of remote recording who engineered records such as Allman Brothers Live at Fillmore East, BB King at Cook Country Jail and Mingus Live at Carnegie Hall. Aaron took David to live shows and recording studios. He worked for his father as a teenager as an audio assistant on the truck. David was involved with recordings of Leonard Bernstein, Ray Charles, Journey, and even Bob Hope Specials.

David studied classical piano and violin as well as technology and related arts at Oberlin Conservatory. He became interested in using technology to create productions during his years at Oberlin. The marriage between classical music and technology became the groundwork for his work.

He graduated and started Baron and Baron, an audio production and original music house, with his father. There was an explosion of broadcast work due to the proliferation of cable channels. David became well known for providing identities for networks including: ABC, Oprah Winfrey Network, CBS, PBS Kids, TV Land, FX, FXm, Sony, Star TV, Nickelodeon, Discovery and many more. David also created jingles and scores for many advertisements including Verizon, JC Penny, H&R Block, Pepsi, and Thermasilk. He also created main titles for Disney, Showtime, HBO, VH1 and many others. He created the logo sound for Verizon.

Baron and Baron dissolved in 2000 and David became partners with Lenny Kravitz and Henry Hirsch in a hybrid vintage analog tape and pro tools recording studio called Edison Studios. The three shared the studio until 2008 when they lost their lease. David moved full time to the Woodstock, NY area. He built Sun Mountain Studios on a mountain overlooking the Ashokan Reservoir.

David produced and co-wrote Ninth for Peter Murphy. He played all the instruments with Kevin Kadish on the smash “All About That Bass” by Meghan Trainor. He has created many string and orchestral arrangements for artists like Lenny Kravitz, Shawn Mendes, Meghan Trainor, and Bat for Lashes. He’s appeared as a keyboardist on records for Keith Urban, Jason Mraz, and many others.

David was one of two musicians, with his close friend and collaborator Kevin Kadish, on the Meghan Trainor’s breakout hit “All About That Bass”.

He co-produced Simone Felice’s solo record Strangers. They co-produced many artists including: Bat For Lashes, Jade Bird, Lumineers (upcoming record), Matt Maeson and Lana Del Rey’s "Hallucinogenic" (#1 at Billboard Alt and Rock Charts), and Shania Twain (upcoming record).

David co-produced and mixed Piano PIano for Jeremiah Fraites of the Lumineers. It was #1 Classical Cross-over on Billboard in 2021.

David is the lead composer and producer on the one-hundred million dollar follow up to Ashes and Snow (Gregory Colbert). He has worked with many collaborators on the score including Laurence Fishburne, Lisa Fisher, Arve Hendriksen, Patrick Watson, Melanie DeBiasio, and Greg Gonzales of Cigarettes After Sex.

He also scored the documentary feature on PTSD in the military called Here. Is. Better.
